East Dallas residents Sarah Lamb, John Bryant running for Texas House District 114

Vickery Place neighbor Sarah Lamb will face Swiss Avenue resident John Bryant in the race for Texas House District 114. Running as a Republican, Lamb will face Bryant, the winner of the Democratic primary. Bryant beat Alexandra Guio in the May 24 run-off.

Lamb didn’t run in the Republican primary, and her Aug. 3 announcement for a November election seems late in the cycle. Lamb came to her place as the Republican nominee in July when Mark Hadju, the Republican candidate who won the March Republican primary running unopposed, was removed from the ballot for not meeting residency requirements for the reshaped Texas House District 114.

In 2019, Lamb unsuccessfully ran for the District 9 City Council seat currently held by Paula Blackmon. She had been looking for “another way to contribute,” she said, and put her name up for consideration after Hadju’s removal. The Dallas County Republican Party subsequently chose Lamb to represent the GOP in November.

Lamb’s initial community involvement was mobilizing neighborhood interests in the redesign of the Gaston-Garland-Grand (3G) intersection. Currently she serves on the Board of Directors for Bryan’s House and is on The Real Estate Council’s Public Policy Committee and the Associate Leadership Class of 2022.

“This is a pivotal time,” Lamb said. “I have two kids in DISD and believe we need someone to step up and represent our community in Austin. When you have skin in the game, you’re a much better legislator.”

Bryant said that he “ran through the primary against four other opponents and won a run-off,” contrasting his electoral path to the nomination with the committee appointment for Lamb.

The boundaries for Texas House District 114 are entirely in Dallas County and include portions of Lakewood, Lochwood, Casa Linda, Forest Hills, Deep Ellum and Downtown. In the 2020 election, Joe Biden polled 68% and Donald Trump 30%. The general election will be Tuesday, Nov. 8.
